MEET THE CANOE AND KAYAK CLUB ON OUR COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

The most recent edition of the Our Community Connections (OCC) television series is now available to you with Host Penny Rose and her guests from the non-profit Viking Canoë & Kayak Club of the Wentworth-Nord area.  You’ll meet Founding Member, their first Commodore, and Coach Wilma Wiemer; and current Commodore and Dragon Boat Coach Trish Canty.

The Club was founded in 2001 and in 18 years has won the Canadian National Team Masters Championships six times and participated in other competitions, including three in Canada, Australia, and Italy. Wilma and Trish enthusiastically present the Club’s many activities for adults and children, such as sprint kayak and canoe boating, dragon boating, para-canoe for the physically disabled, PaddleAll for the intellectually disabled, youth camp, regattas, and recreational and competitive programs.  All their coaches are certified and the Club provides all equipment.  As Trish says, “Bring your enthusiasm and dry clothes.”  Wilma mentions that the Club is for young and old, offering fitness, fun, camaraderie, and passion for these water sports.

In September the Club will have its long-distance regatta.
